going to Monika Appts in Sidari tomoz 29th july any info on them, have heard not too good!!!
My partner and I (32 and 36) have just come back from a 2 week holiday at the Monika Apartments (20th May to 3rd June 2005). We had a great time. The rooms are basic but adequate for how much time we actually spent in them. The kitchen was the best i've ever known on a self catering holiday. Everywhere I've been before has only provided a fridge and two rings - these rooms had a fridge, kettle, 2 rings, oven and grill so you could cook just about anything. There is a big supermarket about 15 minute walk away that sells just about everything. The pool and surrounding area is exceptionally clean and there were very few small children running around, especially considering the second week was half term. When we visited the Canal D'Amour end there were kids everywhere so these apartments are brilliant if you do not like lots of children. The beach right on the doorstep is ok but not as nice as the main beach a 10 minute stroll down. A stroll to the Canal D'amour end where there are pretty coves takes about 20 minutes. All the staff at the Monika were very friendly and the cleaners would always wait an extra half hour if you were not quite up and about. They knock your door at about midday but they waited until 1.00 for us a couple of days. Although the owner doesn't speak much English, he would always smile and say hello whenever we saw him. Tassos the waiter seemed to manage alot of things as he speaks very good English - he is a star and loves all things "rock". Don't worry if you don't like rock music though as he does seem to try and accommodate all tastes of music at the pool and will even play your own CD's if you take them. Look out for his bright orange Beetle with bumper hanging off!! We had many a good night out on the main strip where there are lots of bars open til 2.00 or 3.00 and 2 discos open till about 5.00 in the morning. It was fairly quiet in the bars this time of year but Shakers always seemed the busiest from about 12.00 to 3.00 and the discos got very busy after 1 or 2 in the morning. We spent a lot of time in Boleros Karaoke Bar - George and Sam the waiters are lots of fun. The drinks at the bars were not cheap, about the same price as at home. However, the food at restaurants is cheap as chips and you can get a 1000 ml carafe of house wine for 7 euros (about £5) - we did this alot and found we could get fairly jolly before hitting the bars. Olympic was our favourite restaurant as the staff were really friendly and they also had Greek Dancing going on every night from 8.30. The owner gave us a free carafe of wine on our last night as we had been there about 5 times. We will definitely be returning to the Monika Apartments sometime soon. P.S. A message for someone below who was asking about Scottish Elaine. She no longer works at Monika but she was just around the corner in Star Bar where they have all the favourite soaps and Big Brother - I was well pleased that I got to watch the launch!!
Hi, I was wondering if anyone could tell me where these apartments are? i am coming in september & am looking for somewhere to stay

Hi all.
The Monika Apartments were excellent, clean, friendly, comfortable, nearer to the beach and near to the town.
I went with my partner and my parents for a fortnight. The age group went from 25 to 62 and we all enjoyed it.
My partner enjoys a bit of a gamble e.g bookies and bandits and also casino's but Sidari doesn't even have a bandit in sight. It was the most relaxing holiday we have ever had. So much in fact that we are going back to Sidari on the 03 September 04. We aren't staying at the Monika as it wasn't available or we would have, this year we are staying at the Paradise Apartments in the Centre. CAN'T WAIT......
My family and I have just returned from a week's holiday at the Monika. We stayed bed and breakfast. OK the rooms were basic but they were clean and quite spacious considering we were expecting far, far worse. The staff were great; very friendly and helpful. The pool was excellent too and we had no problem getting sun beds. It is just the right distance away from town; a short walk but far enough away to mean it is not too noisy. Best restaurant we tried was the Olympic although for lunch, Napoleons was brilliant with large bottles of Amstel at 1.50 euros. The kebabs were excellent there and the service was second to none.
I returned from the Monika aparts on the 07/07/2004. we had only paid £250 for the holiday each so i wasn't really expecting the ritz. When we got there i was pleasantly suprised. The rooms were clean and smelt fresh. The kitchen and bathroom areas were clean and tidy. I found our beds were very comfortable and we both had many a good nights sleep in them, although there did seem to be a problem for couples who wanted double beds. i dont think they exist there. The pool was fabulous, really clean and plenty of loungers. The staff were quite friendly and there were a few more English speaking people working there which helped. Our towels were changed only once during our stay of a week which could be improved upon, but they did give us 4 towels two of a good size. The location was fab, it was really nice to be next to the river and the beach and also to be able to hear the crickets as you went to bed. The food was good, and the drinks well priced. we stayed self catering and having the fridge was excellent, altough if a family was staying i think they would find it hard to cook. we had 2 balconies and left towels and clothes out everyday and nothing was taken, which was nice to know. The only slight niggle I could find would be to say that the toilets could maybe do with a clean a few times during the week as they smelt a bit of wee. i had a brilliant holiday there and would definately stay again. there are also a lot of quiet pools and bars close by, perros pool had a really good atmosphere staff were excellent, especially one gentleman who took very good care of us.
My Wife and I stayed in the Monika Self Catering from the 14/06/04 to 18/06/04. We really liked the complex being in a quiet location with nice countryside on the doorstep, and right on top of the Beach, and only a 10minute walk from the Main Steet and action.I was amazed how green the area was. There is an abundance of good restaurants and some nice ones close by, our favourite was the ELYSEE.The Monika Pool is great with a nice bar area, the only let down was the bar staff but i suppose they could change .There are plenty of reasonable priced excursion, our favourite was the East Coast Cruise.
I didn't particularly like the dark walk back to the hotel at night since me and my friend were quite young when we stayed there. I loved the location, it was very close to pubs, clubs, shops and restaurants.
My friend had lots of trouble, being a vegetarian. The first day we were confused at just having toast for breakfast since we had paid for B&B, the manager got irritated with us and offered us a cooked breakfast without telling us we had to pay for it. As my friend tried to explain that she was veggie, he got even more irritated and she ended up with a meat brekkie to keep the peace. Once we had eaten, we got up to leave and he angrily told us to pay, although he had us thinking that it was included in the price we paid for b&b. We weren't happy about that. On the rare times we did see the manager he was quite hostile and unhelpful. We begun to hate breakfast time due to having to face him.
His cleaners were stroppy too. One of them almost dragged my ill friend out of bed one morning to clean the place. I felt that was quite rude. They didn't give us much time to get up to answer the door before opening it with a key.
The beach was pebbly although the sea was lovely. We met some locals who were so friendly although unfortunately believed that all British females are after sex. That was so not the case and although we felt like pieces of meat they still treated us with some respect. They were good to talk to, accomodating, chatty, kinda misleading when you think about what they really wanted !
There aren't a lot of pavements, although near one of the Chinese restaurants there is the best attraction of the place. A man plays a guitar and seems to just talk his way through his songs ! I loved him !!
The food is amazing, there was not one place you could fault. They know how to cook and cook well !
All in all, I'd only go back there again if it was dead cheap. I'd never stay in the hotel again, although we did have lizards coming to see us on the balcony ! So cute !!!
Me,my ex and my family stayed in the Monika Apts which were next door, and had to go down a really muddy and uneven track to get to them.the apartments were really nice, but didnt get clean sheets, apts didnt get cleaned regularly either.Dont put your wet clothes on the line if your in the apts, cos they will get taken by gypsy's(thats who our rep said it was)on dry and hot days. Also be careful of the doors,as they dont lock that well and my brother had a jacket stolen from inside our apt. After that, which was in the 2nd week of our holiday,we got moved into the hotel part and the room whihc was smaller felt safer. The second nite in the new room we all were laid in bed and i felt something run over the back of my head, and after looking round the room we found it was a mouse and told Vangelis-the manager, and he moved us into another room at around midnite on our last nite there. It was madness, chaotic, annoying at times, but also funny and we did have a laugh aswell.Been to Sidari many times before and this is the only time we have had problems.next time we are gonna stay at either Alkion hotel(excellent food-specially brekkie)or the Clio apts or the Trivizas apts.
Hi have just found this site and thought I'd add my comment. I visited Corfu for the first time end of May/beginning of June last year with three friends - it was also my first ever trip abroad!! I was actually quite impressed with the complex, I hadn't been expecting high luxury and I didn't get it!! We stayed self catering which I'm glad about 'cos it meant we had a fridge - vital in the hot weather. The kitchen and bathroom were a bit 'grubby' looking but the food and stuff was so cheap in the tavernas that we actually didn't really eat 'at home' anyway. The Monika was perfect for us because it was close enough to the centre of Sidari for us to go and enjoy the night life but far enough away for it not to keep us awake once we decided to go to bed! The only real problem we had with the apartment was that my bed broke!! It was a bit of a trial getting it sorted as several people came to look, shook their heads and left and, as no-one spoken enough English until the owner returned, we had no idea what was happening! Saying that the pool was brilliantly clean and the sunbeds were comfortable (although I did scratch my leg on one that had a broken bit so do check them first) - I even found I could put a book underneath the 'bed and still read while toasting my back! Excellent. The beach nearby is not very inviting but a leisurely stroll takes you to a much nicer busier beach and a little further on from that there are coves and bays which are absolutely brilliant - I enjoyed myself so much I am hoping to go back again this year, this time with my 11 year old daughter.
me and my partner have just come back from these hotels/apartments we were on a self catering holiday the location of the apartment was great we were about 10 to 15 mins walk from the centre of everything, the only disadvantage was the standard of cleanliness here, the beds sheets had not been changed at all i had to ask for clean towels or else i would of had the same one all week, the staff was ok not brilliant but the entertainment this time of year was below average not very impressed at all, the kitchen was ok but the utensils you got were very dirty , these apartments are ok but if i had a family i would not recommend them at all and even goinh on high season i was wait until the very last minute to book, the pool was really nice and clean and there were plenty of sunbeds etc but on the whole it was ok but what do you expect for a 2*+ rating, but apart from that we had a good time and the weather was good.
we loved the location and the bar and pool. The pool was clean and there were loads of sun loungers to go around. The bar served cheap food and drink - cocktails are tasty but v v strong so be careful! I found the apartment we stayed in very uninviting. The bed was extremely uncomfortable and the sheets were grubby. The apartment was quite dirty and the kitchen area was very very basic - however there was a fridge which was a huge bonus. My advise would be to take your own sheets and a pillow case and also to take bath towels -the ones provided were tiny. We enjoyed our time in sidari. The monika complex, other than the apartment, was great to stay in and the owner and staff were really welcoming and friendly.
I went B & B but the breakfast was only coffee, fruit juice, two rounds of toast with butter and strawberry jam EVERY DAY. I wish I had gone self catering but the rooms with B & B had the best views of the sea and mountains.A fridge is definitely an advantage for keeping cool drinks as it was 42C in August. This hotel is 20/30 minutes walk from the best beaches.
we were very pleased with our 2 bedroom apartment, although the kitchen and bathroom were small the 2 bedrooms were very large both with balconies, and room for our 3 children to share 1 bedroom. We found the location for our family excellent with a 10 minute walk to the centre of town and main beach, but an adequate beach area 2 minutes walk with free beds & unbrellas.
We stayed here for two weeks at the end of May/start of June and enjoyed it.
The hotel was fine and was clean. The location was good tucked away from the main town, but was no more than a five minute stroll away from the centre.
We stayed in the B&B accomodation and had a sea facing room on the first floor, which was pleasant, but a little sparce - a fridge would have been nice.
The breakfast consists of tea/coffee, orange juice and two pieces of toast with jam.
Van Geli the owner is an excellent chap, who is always there to help you.
please can you tell me if we have booked bed and breakfast at the monika hotel in sidari, do we also get cooking facilities in the room?
We have just come back from Sidari today, we spent our honeymoon at the Monika Hotel, staff are brilliant, really friendly. We have made lots of new friends and will definately be going back next year.
Hi people who are going to corfu and staying in the Monika complex will find its clean fraindly and in july its very hot. There are loads of bars and clubs if u want them if u dont theres loads more places to go that might suit u.
i am going to corfu sadari in july staying in monika complex in the hotel part im just woundring if any 1 knows if its a ok hotel
The Monika complex is good, however I would recommend jsut going for the self catering oprion as we had B&B and all you get is two pieces of toast. Very nice toast, but still... Stayed here at the end of October 2001 and it was perfectly adequate - not luxurious - but thats what you get in Greece. Even though it was the end of the season everything was kept lovely and clean. However, I didn't think Sidari itself was all that. It ahd some great restaurants and bars but compared to other places I've been in Greece it was a bit 'grotty' and not very attractive.
Is the monika apartments clean & tidy.
everything !! am staying there 16th sept till 1st oct, would like 2 know what i'm in 4 !!
