Kamari Studios and Apartments - Acharavi
Operator and Date: Golden Sun June 2003

Resort Rating: Very Good
Accommodation Rating: Excellent
My/Our Holiday Opinion: Accommodation
We originally booked to stay at the Erene after reading the good reviews that it received from this site, but we were informed about 2 weeks before departing that due to contractual reasons, we were now being due to stay at the Kamari Studios and Apartments. I then spent the next week trying to find out anything I could regarding them.
I needn't have worried, after a 2 hour transfer from the airport, we were dropped of at what I can only describe as a Palatial apartment complex, compared to the usual Greek standards !
There are 5 residential blocks, with 50 apartments and studios, all in their own private gardens, and have either a balcony or a patio, overlooking the large immaculately kept swimming pool and bar. We stayed in a 1 bedroom apartment above the owners (who lived on site) and compared to other Greek apartments we have stayed in, were massive !
The apartments were about 300 yards to the beach one way, and about 500 yards to the centre of town, the other, down a quiet road. Good fun can be had looking at the little lizards that bask at the side of the road !
The Beach
The beach was a little pebbly in Acharavi itself, but if you walk about 500 yards in either direction, you will come across decent sandy beaches. If you go a little further in the direction of Kassiopi, you may come across a few naked Germans (as we did !) as there is a small nudist beach there !
The Town
There were plenty of Tavernas and snack bars in the town and along the beach. We found the best meals to be Odysseus, Pumphouse and La Fattoria, all of them very near to the roundabout in the town centre, and Faros which was a little snack bar/café on the seafront (The chicken pancake has to be tasted to believed !) The Crepehouse and Freddos Icecreams are worth checking out also.
To be honest, I don't really think you could go wrong with any of the eateries in Acharavi, we never had a below par meal, and I think you would be unlucky if you did.
There are quite a few Olive Wood shops and workshops, dotted around the town, with some unusual wares, worth checking out.
Trips Out
We didn't hire a car or moped, as the trips advertised in the numerous travel agencies throughout Acharavi, we really cheap and frequent. It also meant that we both got to see the beautiful scenery instead of concentrating on the really narrow roads !
Places we visited were -
Corfu Town - Really nice, if you get the chance, go up the forts for really stunning views across the bay and Albania.
Kassiopi - Lovely harbour, with some stunning pebbly beaches that go into bright blue waters. Take some biscuits with you to hand feed the fish there !
Paleocastritsa - The trip we went on included stops at a Kum Kwat distillery, a Monastery, and a village in the mountains. This meant we had only 2 hours to look around the town itself, which we felt wasn't long enough, but was still lovely.
Aqualand - No trip to Corfu would be complete without a trip here to the 2nd biggest waterpark in Europe, and we weren't disappointed. Loads of slides, rides and activities for adults and kids alike, and fairly inexpensive too ! Really recommended !
First time me and my partner went to Acharavi (2002), last miniute deal, we thought, my god, where have we come, bearing in mind we missed our flights from Manchester, had to travel separetly, but, we have, been back four times.(Love it).
It seems that most flights stop at the end of October?.
What is the weather like October/November, looking for property to buy, or rent.
I would appreciate any help or advice.
I was a rep on the island for three yers , i love it
We are going to acharavi at the end of this month. Is their decent places to go for a run?I am training for dublin marathon. So will be taking the running shoes with me.As the marathon is at the end of october.Cannot afford to miss out on any runs with it being so close. Many thanks for your help?
P.S Does anyone have any pictures of the yiannoulla studios??
Cheers Sharon.
Yes that is expensive for a one way transfer, taxi prices are per vehilcle not person , so question your source. Contact Castaway Travel Acharavi, info@corfucastaway.com . they can arrange this much cheaper.
How much should we expect to pay for transfers from the airport to Acharavi. Have been quoted £25.00 per person by private taxi.
Seems expensive - is it?
We stayed at the Panos Apartments about a ten minute walk up the hill from the old village and main road. The Apartments are lovely, exceptionally clean. The pool and pool area are also very clean and well maintained. But Allison and Sam, who run the bar up there, really made the holiday. They both work really hard, yet always have time to talk to you. They are absolute mines of information, don't even bother with the Rep, they've got all the info you need on where to book trips, car hire and the best places to eat. They organise a BBQ every week-don't even think about missing it-great food and atmosphere. We'd certainly book again (though hopefully not through Libra).
just back from a last minute booking, first time in corfu.recommend visiting hydropolis water park, dont book with rep ! only 5 euros by taxi & 13 eoros entrance for adults.
my nephew was there at same time and stayed in mantula 2 apartments is was appaling compared to the holiday they had been sold for mantula 1 be very careful when booking !!
we stayed at Katerina appartments with cosmos it was beautiful! only 5 mins walk to beach, supermarket & telephone just over road.
would also recomend beach barbecue trip, see adverts on main road cheaper than booking with reps.it was fantastic, travelled by boat along coast for a good hour or so,free ouzo & fruit juice! then spent some time in quiet cove diving & swimming in the sea look out for caves in the rocks shown to us by boatman, stunning.then on to beach for barbecue for lovelly food & flowing cold drinks all included in price.
would definatly go back & recommend to anyone looking for a a restful holiday if you fancy a bit of nightlife sidari is only a taxiride away approx 12 euros.
Please be aware if you are going to the Matoula studios / apartments in Acharavi. There are 2 Matoulas, and both are owned by the same people - except the studios/apts are so totally different.
We have just had 2 weeks (June 23rd - July 7th) at Matoula booking via the internet. We were only told it was Matoula in Acharavi, so we looked at the brochures and what people had said about the accommodation on the net. We were only expecting one Matoula with pool, snack bar, quiet and only 300 metres from the sea. Sadly we ended up in Matoula 2. This is very very basic, 3 storey block, very very noisy and slap bang on the main road. This meant we could not even have the windows open at night due to the noise. We had to buy an electric fan to try and keep cool. Our balcony was at pavement level and only 4 feet from the main pavement. This meant we had not privacy what so ever and had to keep our curtains or shutters across fro the whole 2 weeks. It was also a 15 minute walk to the beach. We met 4 other couples/families in the 2 weeks who had also expected the other Matoula and they all refused to even unpack or stay the night. Our rep told us we could move AT OUR OWN EXPENSE. We stayed but i know all the others moved out as it was appauling.
Don't get me wrong, Acharavi is a gorgeous place, the peole are so wonderful and the beach fantastic. This was my fifth visit to the resort, but on this occassion i could not get home quick enough.
So just be aware that there are TWO Matoulas and both so very very different.
We have just returned from a week in The Beachside Bungalows in Acharavi. This was our first time in Corfu,so we had no clue what to expect. The Bungalows themselves could not be in a better location, literally a stones's throw from the beach.Vangelis who runs the complex is a nice helpful guy.
We were most impressed by the local people - they were friendly, helpful but not obsequious. Plenty of places to get a really good meal - our favourite was the 2 Brothers. The food was excellent, reasonably priced and after we had met the staff for the first time, they treated us like old friends - a place I would definately recommend.
As you turn every corner on the Island, you seem to come across something even more beautiful than before.
The down side?
It was so hot during the night that my wife and I rarely slept - no air conditioning or even a fan in the accomoidation.
THOSE BLOODY MOSQUITOES!!!!!!
For practically the whole week,I was eaten alive by these things.Take jungle strength repellant with you if you go.
Achiravi is just the ort of place that attracts visitors year after year = I can see why.
If Dave Wilson from Castle Douglas reads this- send me an e-mail - I want to sponsor you in your free fall for the hospital -you have a lovely family.
Acharavi is one of the few of the resorts that hasn't been destroyed by tourism. It's a charming town with great restaurants, a great beach and has a wonderful smell of flowers when you walk around. I've been to Sidari and Roda and at first Sidari made a great first impresion but now its been distroyed by tourism and is'nt what it used to be. Acharavi has taken its place and i would recomend it to anyone young or old!
I have been going to Acharavi for the last 15 years. I find the people to be very friendly and they always remember you from one year to the next. The beach is lovely and it is a nice walk to Roda. If you want a nice laid back holiday this is the one. We meet friends out there from Scotland every year, so at the moment we go there between two and three times a year, and we still love it.
acharavi temp in september average 80 starts to cool in the late evening towards the end of the month
Visited Acharavi last year, staying at Dafnis Apts, next to Harry's Bar. Trip was booked via Golden Sun (Honest and Accurate Description, good value for money). Harry prides himself on his service, (fresh lemons from the tree for my gin was nice touch), Yamas Bar on the main street a good place for breakfast while The Pump House serves as the best venue for evening meal and bottle of local vino. Presently planning our return visit for later this year.
I love corfu so much, and i have been there so much I decided it would be easier to just live there, so in May 2003, i will live in acharavi for 6 months. Te night life is alright in the height of the season the clubs and bars are busy! People are wicked. Harry's bar Acharavi is Proper decent, Harry and all the staf are tops, maybe ill be working there in may.
I have booked a holiday to the Ano studios in acharavi please can youl let me know what they are like they are above a souvenier shop and it is with Golden Sun via Portland Holidays
Just got back from Acharavi. Had a last minute deal so did not no what to epect. A pleasant surprise. Good amenities. The resort was fairly laid back and was not too crowded even in the high season. Some of the beach taverners especially SKONDROS offer great food as the sun is going down over the sea. Two teanage boys enjoyed the mainly sandy beach as long as there is plenty of money to spend on watersports. Aqualand a good afternoon out - cheap after 3pm. Overall, I would go back as it is well connected to other parts of the island. Tip - hire a car in the UK before you go as you can normally get a better deal although Acharavi Travel near the pump offered some of the best travel deals of all types we could find on the island.Went into Corfu Town on our last evening. The old town is well worth a visit. WARNING we got ripped off big time when we were tired and hot by the BEST TOP outside resturant who ended up charging us £50 for a meal they said would cost £25. They prey on tired tourist.
Acharavi. It is quite a large developing resort, not crowded. It has good facilites, supermarket, gift shops etc. Plenty of good bars and restaurants, not as lively as some resorts, but has one night club and most bars stay open til very late. For a livelier night out try the neighbouring Roda a nice 20 minute walk along the beach. The beach is about 2 miles long, sandy at one end, shingle at the other, there are a number of bars with free swimming pools as well. Trips are available to various parts of the island, including Corfu's Aqualand water park. Very good for a relaxing holiday
Visited Acharavi for the second time in June (02)having been there last June. We found the best local food was at the Palm Tree Taverna. Acharavi is fairly quiet except for 2 nightclub type bars in the town, the one next to the Palm Tree Taverna goes on until 2 or 3 am and is very loud, the other does not get started until around 1 to 2 am. Best beach is a few kilometers out of town towards Kassiopi, call Agios Spiridon, with a clean sandy beach and shallow clear water. Bars on the beach are expensive. A walk along the beach from Acharavi to Roda is very pleasant, the prices in the bars and restaurants are slightly cheaper. Well worth a visit if you are not looking to live life in the fast lane. Be sure to try and get to the Taverna Agni (in Agni)where the food is to die for.
We went to Sidari last year and it was great, booked for Acharavi and not sure whether it will be too quiet. Going to Matoula apartments with two boys aged 10 and 9, is there much for kids to do? and what about good restaurants? Thanks
Acharavi is quite a big resort. It has lots of bars and restaurants to choose from, but still manages to be quiet and friendly. Brilliant place, lots to do, hot weather, nice beaches, nice people. We have booked again for this year.
