13/6/08 - 27/6/08
Flight from Birmingham
Room 205 , 2nd floor
http://www.socrateshotel.com/AIRPORT-------- Small Airport, but does have air conditioning. On the return journey we had to queue outside for about 1 hour as they do not have a lot of room at the checking in desks, the reps did there best to keep people out of the sun. Once through passport control there is a duty-free shop and a few small places to get something to eat.
TRANSFER------- Transfer from the Airport took 1 hour 25 minutes, over the mountain and around lots of bendy roads. If you get travel sick, take a sick bag.
VIEW FROM ROOM--------- Our room could not have had a better view. We stood on the balcony, looked out to the sea and to the mountains of Albaina.
ROOM-------------- Good size room, with twin beds and sofa bed, kettle, TV (no english channels) and fridge. Shower over a small bath and shower curtain and the BEST THING- HOT WATER every hour of every day. Maid service every day, Linen changed once a week and towels changes twice a week.
CHECK OUT-------- Check out- 12 midday.
AIR CONDITIONING------ 5 Euro per day. It works with the fob key attached to the door key (for the electricity), but if you use a card or thick bit of paper to push the switch down this works just as well. The Air con worked ok for the first few days but as the weather was a little chilly at night this was fine, but as the weather heated up the air con did not work at all. We would leave it on while out at night and when we returned after it being on for about 6 hours the room was still so hot. We did complain about this to Socrate, who came up to the room and said he thought the room was ok. He did say the Air con is controlled centrally and is not on all day and only has one unit to blow the hot air out, so if everyone is use it, the unit is not able to work properly. As we complained about it he offer us a fan, which helped a little.
SAFE BOXES----- 15 euro for 2 weeks 2 weeks. The boxes are in the reception and looked very safe. You only need one key to open the boxes, so no need to bother any one at the reception to get another key and were able to use boxes as we pleased.
RECEPTION---- The reception open 8am - midnight.
POOL AREA------- The hotel has 2 pools (one big pool and one some children's pool), there are lots of beds around the pool and they also have beds on the glass area in front of the hotel, We would go out to the pool about 10am and most of the time were the first ones out, so no need to reserve beds early.
Sidari----- Sidari does not have proper paths along, so you have to be very careful when walking along the main streets. The roads are not very wide and when cars are passing you have to watch where you stand to let them passed. THE BEST RESTAURANT - MYTHOS
ATM---- There are lots of ATM's (more than 5) along the main road. We did have a problem with one and were not able to get any money, but as this was Sunday night it may have be there was no money in the machine, we walked a little way up the road and that one was working fine.
INTERNET------ The hotel has internet in the reception area. There are also lots of bars that also have internet.
TO SUM UP ----- Would we recommend Socrate Apartments and Sidari. We would not go back to the apartments based on the Air con, but if you are someone that is able to sleep in hot conditions then we would fully recommend it. As for Sidari if you like bars that have English soaps on TV, play bingo, have quiz nights then this is the place for you.
