We have stayed at the Yianoulla studos 3 times in the last 18 months so you will understand our need to know if any other holiday company have taken over bookings for these studios. We want to holiday there every June and are desperate for information. The nabes of the owners are Blachos but that is all I know. We wouls appresiate any info.
The Chrisa hotel closed down in late 2005 and is now a home for the elderly in Acharavi. The pool has been filled in and is now a gardened area. It was a lovely place run by the great english couple who were most friendly either in the hotel or just walking about the village. The hotel will be sadly missed. My wife and I were never guests there but stopped there now and again for a cool drink as we came off the beach.
. As regular visitors to Acharavi I would thouroughly recommend any of the cruises run by Castaway Travel who are to be found at the eastern end of the village. It is regretted that the famous (or infamous or incorrigible) Captain Aris is no longer with us but the tradition of great value and enjoyable company has been ably taken over by his brother Theo, another fully qualified Captain. My wife and I have been on many of their trips including the Beach Bar B Q and had great times. We will be in Acharavi in early June this year and our first port of call will be to Castaway. We also use their site " Travel with Friends" to arrange our holiday accomodation, as we are independant travellers. Try it! Its a wonderful service.
... Anitas is no longer a restaurant as it closed down in late 2004. Yes the food there was really great and the hosts,Anita and her husband Alan, were very nice people. The Whispers Club, also on the old main road also closed at roughly the same time. I think that they were two of the victims of the Golden Sun collapse and the opening of the "All Inclusive" hotels in this area. This event also hit many other small businesses in the area including our favourite taverna, the Palm Tree. Dinos and his wife Ellen are special friends and we will be visiting them in their home in early June when we are on holiday there once again. We travelled regularly with Golden Sun and when they folded we wondered how to get back to the apartment we had always rented. We E-Mailed Castaway Travel, and through the efforts of Sue Tsirigoti of "Travel with Friends" we now get back there every year. We now rent one of T.W.F's apartments and book a flight with AVRO, who we found to be the cheapest for us.
Regrettably, The Elongata taverna on the beach closed down in September 2006. Maria had left in late 2005 to have her baby, the taverna was taken over by an Italian family and I'm afraid the food was not up to much at all. On top of that they had the worst behaved young boy who annoyed the customers with his whistle blowing every moment of the day. I think they had bought it to stop his constant crying and shouting. When Maria and her husband ran it we had lunch there every day and a few evening meals as well. We don't know if Maria will be back there but we hope and pray that she will be. The meals we had then were great and the views of the sun-sets were a magnificent sight. I will give an update when we return after our June holiday. Peter Pan of Acharavi.
The Palm Tree taverna became another victim of the "All Inclusive" spread in this village. Dinos told me last September that he was selling up and returning to work as a roof installer. What a crying shame for our favourite taverna for the last 6 holidays in Acharavi. They are a lovely family and the food there was simply the best. They were also helpful and so friendly. I keep in touch with whem by e-mail through their so Spiros and his wife Afroditi. I know there are other good tavernas in this part of Acharavi but we will sadly miss Dinos. Three tavernas of note are the Filaraki on the main street. My wife says you must try the chicken and chips there. Tell Yannis that Peter Pan sent you. He also does more take-aways than any place we have ever known. there is a constant stream of cars pulling up outside. It is just in front of the bakery. The Maistro is also good food and pleasant service. Last September we were caught in a real hummer of a rainn storm while eating in the Skondros, on the beach. The water was rushing down the lane about a foot deep. Come midnight we were going to brave it and walk the 200 metres back to our apartment but the owner of the Skondros would not let us. He got his car out and took us back right to the doorstep of our apartment. Another great example of Greek hospitality.
We found how to get back to these studio apartments by e-mailing Travelwithfriends or Castaway Travel to give its other name. Sue Tsirigoti was most helpful and we had a great holiday at the Yiannoula again. We now are having our holidays in the Kostas Apartment which is organised by Sue. We are independant travellers so love this arrangement. We book the apartment we want, book a flight and when we arrive there is a lovely welcome pack in the apartment. The familt are on site and they are great. We would not have it any other way. Peter Pan says so.
Every evening of our fortnights holiday, every June and some Septembers, we have a couple of ouzos with Mama, Kostas and friends in the Panda. The friendliest place in Corfu without a doubt. The drinks are reasonably priced and are very strong. Kostas sees to that. The number of regular patrons tells you all you need to know about it. We meet up with many friends there year after year and the ones we keep in touch with by e-mail always say what dates their holidays are and finish with "see you in the Panda" on their first night of the holiday. Any one out there who has not been to enjoy the welcome there is missing something from their lives. Rectify this on your next holiday in Acharavi.
agreat place to eat and watch the sun set. we are just back from holiday in acharavi and had lunch every day at the maistro. we also had a few evening meals there. one of these meals was the carbonara which we enjoyed very much. the best meal i had was the mussels a-la-chef. marvelous, the best mussels i have ever tasted, and i was brought up as a youngster on sea food as my father was born on the c*mbrian coast and loved all kinds of sea food. chris and vassos are lovely peiole who deserve to succeed as they really look after their customers. that is why they do so well. we missed chris's bouzouki night this year but have promised to be there next june as we have already booked our holiday in acharavi with castaway travel (travel with friends). come on you readers get to acharavi and enjoy a really "laid-back" holiday by a beautiful, safe beach. peter pan.
Hi,all. Just back from another beautiful holiday in Acharavi. Visited the Panda bar nearly every evening, a couple of ouzos with Mama and Kostas before going for our evening meal. It's a great life if you don't weaken! Met loads of old friends as usual.Mama,Micheline, and Kostas really make part of our holidays with their warm welcome and and friendly chat. Kostas was not too well in walking so we do hope he recovers quickly. We will see them next June,if not before, as we have already booked our apartment for June with Castaway Travel in Acharavi. We always travel independantly by booking with Castaway then buy a flight only, usually through AVRO, and pick suitable flight times. We don't do the "red-eye" flights so take our pick and travel with Monarch Airlines on a day flight. This suits us fine. A little bit dearer but we get to choose what is best for us, being no spring chickens!. Enjoy you hols, Peter Pan.
