We have just returned from 2 weeks staying at the Mimosa, what a nightmare! The food is inedible and during the first week there I guess that 90% of the guests were complaining. Breakfast consisted of Concrete toast and Fried bread, rubber eggs, greasy streaky bacon, no cereal, no fruit. The dinner gave a few choices for each course, e.g. dishwater soup, crabless salad for starter, Potatoes/Chips with some sort of meat, (I'm told the spaghetti and the chicken were ok)no vegetables ever.To cap it all they advertise a different menu for people to come in off the street (with vegetables!), but guests are not allowed this menu unless they pay for it. The sweets were ok although they were always the same. There is a limited kids menu, but again this never changes. My wife had the misfortune to order the Curried Beef which was black inside on our fourth night there, we never ate in the hotel again after that. My 11 year old daughter never ate in the hotel at all!
We had a family room with a pool/sea view, what we didn't know was that we were directly above the entertainment room where the entertainment (Bingo, Karaoke, hypnotist, singer, then the same again the next 4 nights and so on) went on until 1am and then people congregated on the patio outside until 2-3am. We don't have a problem with people enjoying themselves but surely family rooms shouldn't be located here. To cap it all the cleaners start banging round from 7:30am so 5 hours sleep was the maximum you could possibly get.
Mike the manager seemed a nice guy and the staff are absolutely superb, but they need to sort the food and the rooms out. I can't understand how the snack menus were so varied and the food excellent, but the half board meals were so bad.
This was our umpteenth visit to Greece and was by far the most disappointing, sort it out Thomsons, you are better than this.
We went on Theos boat trip (through Thomsons), which although pricey was the best day of our holiday. The boat is superbly equipped and Theo is a nutter, if you enjoy a laugh and ar not easily offended you must go, it's great for all ages. The beach barbecue was excellent and you could go back for seconds, drink as much rough wine as you like and have a relaxing few hours on the beach, with beautifully clean water (not like Sidari beach!. Save some of your bread and you can feed the fish, they will come almost right to your hand.
We booked to go with Thomsons who are quite dear, there are lots of other people doing it cheaper. It's a great day out though whether you want to go on the water slides or not. Our 11 year old daughter was able to do her own thing and we were able to take some sun drift around the lazy river etc. A very easy relaxing day and a must for any family.
Sidari has a varied selection of rooms and hotels, some good some bad, unfortunately we stayed at the Mimosa. The main beach is probably the dirtiest beach I've come across in Greece with sewage outlets at each end. I wouldn't go in the water here, some of the coves around Canal D'Amour seemed much better and I'm told Arillas beach is superb.
The nightlife is whatever you want loud or quiet and we ate in some superb restaurants. Try the 3 Little Pigs for an excellent Greek meal and Faros nightclub hides gem of a restaurant at the back with excellent food, view and service. If you want boring Englisg food go to Fagins, who do the best breakfast in town and also have a Sunday Roast Carvery on a Sunday which is so good you have to book in advance.
