Just got back from 2 weeks at the Silver Beach Hotel & Diet break! (only time I lost weight on holiday) As nearly everyone will tell you, the food is pretty appalling, but there are plenty of places to eat out and put that right. Luckily our room was 2nd floor, rear of hotel. Basic, clean enough, beds very uncomfortable, views fantastic! Owner IS creepy though.
Discovered Alexandro's Pool Bar (behind Silver Beach Hotel) with large scrupulously clean pool - I know, I watched Les clean it each day! - plenty of sunbeds, WONDERFUL team of people running the place, free quizzes and fun & games. The food is pretty good too, I had the best pizza I've ever had at Alexandro's, never quite managed to clear my plate at any meal though! Tell 'em I sent you! and beware of Anna....
Roda is a charmingly shabby resort, lots of friendly folk everywhere, nothing too high pressured. You'll hear people talk about Maggie's Place- Fantastic breakfasts, also reknowned for their fish suppers, sadly cooked in lard so I didn't try)and it is worth a visit just to have filter coffee (nearly impossible to get a decent coffee anywhere in Roda). They also serve fabulous pint of Strongbow, but be warned not cheap because imported.
We really enjoyed George's Dreamer cruises (bookings from the Hotel down at the beach, there's a sign) - in fact it's probably cheaper and very simple to book your own trips anywhere rather than through reps - compare prices at different travel shops and don't rush to book at the welcome meeting.
I could go on, but you'll want to find out stuff for yourself. I'm definitely going back one day. PS Be courteous, learn a bit of Greek even if just please and thank you, goes down very well in Corfu.
I just can't say enough good things about this Pool Bar, we had such a good time and loads of laughs here. While there was plenty of quizzes, games etc. we didn't feel hassled, it was very relaxed. Definitely try the pizza, it is quite marvellous. Watch out for Anna though, she's full of mischief. If Angelo ever has fish on the menu, it will be VERY fresh as it's the only kind he'll let in the place, and they cook it to perfection.
Go there, have fun and relax.
I've already put comments on the Pool Bar site, but was directed to this as well by my very good friend (u know who u r!)I stayed at Silver Beach hotel, but spent all my pool time at the lovely Alexandro's so that should tell you something! I won't have a word said against Angelo, Anna & the gang, I can only hope that the comments contained elsewhere here are a wind-up.
I believe you get out of a holiday what you put in, if you are friendly, courteous and willing to meet people half way you'll do just fine. I'm really not worried and neither should the many fine people who go to Roda be, for as long as certain people stay away, we can all enjoy ourselves. Can't wait to go back! the place is really addictive. Jan (pool-playing, excellent greek-speaking [!!!]and Roda recruit)
