We visited the Athina Studios in September 2003 and found them to be clean, comfortable and welcoming. As others have mentioned there are lots of steps, but you soon get used to them.
The views from the apartments are stunning, who could beat watching the sunrise from your bed; and being greeted by the smell of breakfast cooking from the Dolphin Taverna below (great food and a very friendly family restaurant who love children!!).
We are leaving again tomorrow (14 June 2004) for two more weeks at the Athina, and will post some more comments upon our return.
We stayed at the Katerina in June 2002 for 2 weeks (myself, hubby, in-laws and 16-month old Mahri). We were enthusiatically welcomed by the owner and his elderly father on arrival and shown to our clean and homely room. The cleaning throughout our holiday was excellent, and the owner was always happy to offer us advice about buses, supermarkets etc.
Nice, basic, clean holiday accommodation at a good price. But no longer available through Golden Sun; the Dolphin Snack Bar can help you with booking (part of the extended family!).
When you go to Paleo, make sure you try out the DOLPHIN TAVERNA. The food is excellent (especially the bargain breakfasts, keftiko and stifado), the staff never forget a face, and the views are great. My family and I are welcomed back year after year like old friends. The Athina Studios above are also excellent - clean and very good value.
Also take the walk up to the MONUSTARY, the snack bar is good (nice new toilets!), just make sure you take a sarong for visting the monustary, or the monks will make you wear a rather fetching flowery skirt - just think of Felicity Kendal in the Good LIfe (you get the idea!).
Another very happy visit to the Athina Studios in June 2004, welcomed back like old friends. But, having problems finding accommodation at Athina or Katerina Studios for Sept 2005 (not with Argo anymore, and no joy with Olympic either). If anyone knows who has taken over care of them for 2005 please leave a meaasge on this site for me. Any comments greatly appreciated.
