Beis Beach Hotel - (Accommodation in Acharavi)

Pete A

Beis Beach is a very nice "B Class" Hotel with good facilities. I found the staff both knowledgeable & helpful. The Hotel has Rooms, suites and self catering appartments. The only small comment I would make is that they charge a small fee for the use of pool sunbeds. However there are a number of local pools who do not, the nearest is the Amorossa, just 5 minutes up the beach from Beis Beach. Beis Beach: www.beisbeach.gr Amorossa: www.sonic-bar.co.uk/amorossa

Matoula Apartments - (Accommodation in Acharavi)

Pete A

The Matoula Appartments near the beach (as oppossed to Matoula2 in the high street) is a smart complex that looks a bit like a hotel, with a staffed reception desk. The desk provides an exchange service, and shower rooms & a luggage storage area for departin guests are available. The rooms are very nice and large with marble floors, direct dial telephones, bathroom & kitchen facilities (fridge, rings, cooker hood, utensils, crockery, kettle). The larger family rooms also have microwaves. There is a large pool with a seperate childrens pool, free sunbeds and a snack bar. This accomodation is popular with families

Corfu Village Apartments - (Accommodation in Acharavi)

Pete A

I can't comment on the appartments but can tell you about Acharavi. It is quite a large developing resort, not crowded. It has good facilites, supermarket, gift shops etc. Plenty of good bars and restaurants, not as lively as some resorts, but has one night club and most bars stay open til very late. For a livelier night out try the neighbouring Roda a nice 20 minute walk along the beach. The beach is about 2 miles long, sandy at one end, shingle at the other, there are a number of bars with free swimming pools as well. Trips are available to various parts of the island, including Corfu's Aqualand water park. Very good for a relaxing holiday.

Amorossa Pool Bar - (Bars in Acharavi)

One of the nicest pools in the area, no charge for the use of sunbeds / sun umbrellas. Food & drink bar open from morning til late at night, food freshly prepared to order. Satellite TV & Radio with British cahnnels, regular Karaoke & Greek nights, pool table & book exchange. Run by a friendly young English / Greek couple Natalie & Andreas. www.sonic-bar.co.uk/amorossa

JMC - (Tour Operators on Corfu)

Pete A  (25 July 2002)

JMC's local staff need to sort out the airport transfers. In May the transfer time from the airport to Acharavi was over 3 hours. The JMC transfer rep tried to laugh it off by calling it "the grand island tour" as it visited so many resorts on the way. Bear in mind that there was a half empty coach to the neighbouring resort of roda, that they did not use. 3 hours in the sweltering heat is far too long when the actual driving time is around 40 mins. Taking drop off's into account one and a half hours woud have been a reasonable time. If you are staying at the beis beach hotel (a very nice hotel incidentally) be aware that the JMC board (in May) was incorrectly stating that coach pickups for return journeys are from the front of the building. After nearly missing my coach I discovered that coaches pickup from the beach behind the hotel, a few hundred yards in the opposite direction. I have contacted JMC regarding these issues and they assure me that they will be dealt with. As I am returning in August I will make a point of checking and reporting back. Neither of these issues are difficult to rectify and just serve to indicate sloppy local management.

Elongata - (Restaurants in Acharavi)

Pete A

Elongata is a Taverna / Beach bar on Acharavi Beach, open from early morning the restaurant serves meals throughout the day and into the night. The menu is varied featuring a number of Greek specialties hard to find elsewhere.

An ideal location for a cool drink in the shade or an evening meal with great sunset views and of course Maria's cactus garden which gives the restaurant it's name.
